The Look of the Law
University Art Gallery
University of California, Irvine
Thursday September 28, 2006-Friday October 20, 2006.

The Look of Law exhibition addresses the direct and residual effects that state power has on the psyche and how this, in turn, is manifest in the force of Law. Organized by Simon Leung, the artists participating in the gallery exhibition are Silvia Kolbowski, Mary Kelly, The Speculative Archive, Trevor Paglen, SRI director Jeff Cain, Claire Fontaine, Lincoln Tobier, Ashley Hunt, Julia Scher, and Susan Silton. Cain will be presenting a Shed Research Institute project on the history culture and technology of the LAPD communications system.
 

THE FIRST SHED:
a collaboration between the SRI, Rachel Allen Architecture and artist Gary Cannone

The SRI is currently renovating it's first shed for exhibitions, events, and meetings as a collaborative project with Rachel Allen Architecture and artist Gary Cannone. Projected completion is in May 2006.

Renovated from an approximately 100 year old back yard shed, the new facility is a shed and courtyard designed as a multi use space to function as Cannone's studio and an exhibition and meeting space for the SRI and other cultural enterprises.

SRI on RADIO FESTIVAL EPSILONIA

The SRI will have a one time radio work on RADIO FESTIVAL EPSILONIA upcoming in May. The radio broadcast is based in Paris and mirrored in several cities in Europe.

The Espilonia Festival program will run on May 18, 10p-7am Paris/ 1pm- 10pm Los Angeles.

SRI programming, listed as SRI director Jeff Cain, will be during the final hour, 7am Paris, 10pm Los Angeles.

RADAR BALLOON at the Getty Research Institute April 19

The SRI short film Radar Balloon will screen at the Getty Research Institute April 19 as part of the Reckless Behavior video screening. Reservations are required. Link here to reserve a spot. Radar Balloon is the documentation of an experiment using a children's weather balloon to trigger the radar of a private military research facility.
 

TOCA workshop at MOCA Grand Ave. April 2

SRI director Jeff Cain will be leading a workshop on installation in public spaces for Teens of Contemporary Art (TOCA) at MOCA, Los Angeles on April 2 from 4-6pm. If you are teenager and would like to attend, please click here. The public is welcome to stop by and experience the temporary installations created by the workshop participants.
 

Voice of America, One Night Gallery during the Havana Art Biannual, March 31

NOWHERE BETTER THAN THIS PLACE

opening in La Havana on March 31st at 4:00pm,
during the 9th Havana Art Biennial. As part of Evelyn Serrano's One Night Gallery Project, SRI director Jeff Cain is presenting a project based on shipping a telephoto panoramic photograph of the Delano,CA radio towers that broadcast Radio Marti, the illegal American radio service, to Cuba.

 

PUBLIC SCULPTURE PART II By ALICE KÖNITZ

In collaboration with the artist, the SRI organized for Koenitz to use a camera phone to upload pictures, audio, and text to blog her experiences automatically on location at her sculpture at 24 Hour California Donuts.
