The Shed Research Institute
is an organization committed to research and development
of independent cultural research projects.
SRI has two main functions: to initiate conceptually
driven artistic, cultural, and technological projects
that investigate and intervene in cultural systems and
to distribute and publicize independent research projects
though exhibition, education, and collaboration.
SRI is a young organization that has no plans for a
permanent facility. As SRI is committed to working on-site
and in specific communities, many times available facilities
will be preferred, including: public spaces, wilderness,
small businesses, galleries, museums, theaters, cultural
centers, etc.
In the near future SRI will erect its own temporary
shed facility in a backyard or empty lot in Los Angeles.
This shed will ideally be self-sustaining for power
and water, and will have no legal address. All shed
facilities are considered temporary and will be stationed
as long as it is needed and then moved or taken
apart to facilitate future use.
SRI is currently under the direction of Los Angeles
artist Jeff Cain. It's participants, collaborators,
and hosts are still in development.
